Fancy an evening in the loos with Lesley Garrett?

Probably not just to annoy Telegraph readers (but fair-do's if it is), Opera North have a new piece next year: framed around Val, who
'works the toilets in “Pleasure”, a hedonistic gay club in the north of England.
For years, she’s been a shoulder to cry on and a confidante.'
Val will be played by Lesley Garrett. At Howard Assembly Room, then on tour to Liverpool Playhouse, Aldeburgh Britten Studio, and Lyric Hammersmith in London. This will come in the thick of the Ring cycles next year too.ON are surely the most dynamic opera company in the UK at the moment.
Make of that way you will, and buy a ticket here.
In a rather irksome trend with Opera North you have to pay up now; more than a year ahead. I wouldn't like to speculate to what extent the subject matter might put off Garrett's fans - who can see her here for £15 rather than £145 at Garsington in the summer. For that reason alone, it seems likely to be a warm ticket at least.
